What is Cotellic?
Cotellic (cobimetinib) is a cancer drug that prevents cancer cells from growing and spreading in the body.
Cotellic is a drug that is used to treat a type of metastatic melanoma (skin cancer) that has spread to other places of the body and is resistant to surgery.
Follow the directions on the label and container of your drug. All of your medical conditions, allergies, and medications should be disclosed to each of your healthcare providers.
Before taking this medicine
If you are allergic to cobimetinib, you should not use Cotellic.
To make sure Cotellic is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:
a history of eye difficulties (particularly a problem with your retina); liver or renal disease; skin problems not connected to melanoma; a muscular disorder; a bleeding or blood clotting disorder such as hemophilia; or a condition that requires the use of a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven).
How should I take Cotellic?
Follow your doctor’s instructions for taking Cotellic. Blood tests will be performed by your doctor to ensure that you have the correct tumor type for cobimetinib treatment.
Cotellic side effects
If you develop hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, seek emergency medical attention right away.
Stop using Cotellic and call your doctor at once if you have:
Unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness (particularly if you also have a fever and dark-colored urine); visual changes, partial vision loss, seeing halos around lights; unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness (especially if you also have a fever and dark-colored urine);
bruising or bleeding that is easy to come by (nosebleeds, bleeding gums);
Weakness, dizziness, headache, red or pink urine, bloody or tarry stools, spitting up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds are all indicators of internal bleeding.
Cough, wheezing, shortness of breath (even with modest exercise), chest pain, fast heartbeats, swelling in your feet or ankles are all indicators of a heart condition.
Low sodium levels in the body cause headaches, slurred speech, extreme weakness, vomiting, lack of coordination, and unsteadiness.
Nausea, upper stomach pain, tiredness, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored feces, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes) are all symptoms of liver disease.
Skin rash that spreads and causes blistering and peeling, as well as skin pain, itching, redness, lumps or pimples, thickened or wrinkled skin, and skin rash that causes blistering and peeling.
Common Cotellic side effects may include:
Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea; fever; sunburn or increased susceptibility to sunlight; low sodium levels; or abnormal laboratory tests are all possible symptoms.
