Description

Bystolic and Nebicip are the brand name of Nebivolol. They belong to a group of medicines called beta-blockers. They are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).   They help to prevent future heart attacks and stroke and to prevent migraine. Nebicip 5 Tablet is also used to relieve the symptoms caused by an overactive thyroid gland. It may be prescribed alone or together with other medications. The dose and frequency depend on what you are taking it for and the severity of your condition. It may be taken empty stomach or with a meal, but take it regularly at the same time each day to get the most benefit. It may take several weeks before you get the full benefit of this medicine and you may need to take it for the rest of your life. However, it is important to continue taking it even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel ill and if you stop taking it, your condition may worsen. Lifestyle changes like low-fat diet, exercise, and no smoking help to enhance the working of this medicine.

BEFORE TAKING THIS MEDICATION

You should not take nebivolol if you are allergic to it, or if you have: a serious heart condition such as heart failure, “AV block” (2nd or 3rd degree), or sick sinus syndrome (unless you have a pacemaker); very slow heartbeats; severe liver disease; or if your heart cannot pump blood properly. Tell your doctor if you have ever had: asthma, bronchitis, emphysema; a heart attack; problems with circulation (especially in your feet and legs); diabetes (taking nebivolol can make it harder for you to tell when you have low blood sugar); a thyroid disorder; liver or kidney disease; allergies; or pheochromocytoma (tumor of the adrenal gland). Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is not known whether nebivolol will harm an unborn baby. However, having high blood pressure during pregnancy may cause complications such as diabetes or eclampsia (dangerously high blood pressure that can lead to medical problems in both mother and baby). The benefit of treating hypertension may outweigh any risks to the baby. You should not breastfeed while using nebivolol.

HOW TO USE

Take Nebivolol exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Take at the same time every day. You may take the medication with or without food. Do not skip doses or stop taking without first talking to your doctor. Stopping suddenly may make your condition worse or cause other serious heart problems such as severe chest pain or heart attack. You may need to use less and less before you stop the medication completely. Your blood pressure will need to be checked often. Visit your doctor regularly. If you need surgery, tell the surgeon ahead of time that you are using Bystolic. It is only part of a complete program of treatment that also includes diet, exercise, and weight control. Follow your diet, medication, and exercise routines very closely. Keep using Nebivolol as directed, even if you feel well. High blood pressure often has no symptoms. You may need to use blood pressure medication for the rest of your life. Store Nebivolol at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

SIDE EFFECTS

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have: a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out; rapid weight gain; shortness of breath; slow or uneven heartbeats; or numbness or cold feeling in your hands and feet. Common side effects may include: dizziness; swelling in your legs; slow heartbeats; tiredness; or headache.

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

This medication belongs to a group of medicines called long-acting beta-blockers. It works by blocking the effects of some chemicals on your heart and blood vessels. It slows down your heart rate and helps the heart beat with less force. This lowers your blood pressure and helps in reducing your risk of having a stroke, a heart attack, other heart problems, or kidney problems in the future. This medicine needs to be taken regularly to be effective, so keep taking it even if you feel well. Do not stop without talking to your doctor.
