WHAT IS ZENHALE?

ZENHALE  (mometasone furoate / formoterol fumarate dihydrate inhalation aerosol), is a combination of an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) and a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA) indicated for the treatment of asthma, in patients 12 years of age and older with reversible obstructive airway disease.

ZENHALE contains two medicines, mometasone furoate
and formoterol fumarate dihydrate:

• Mometasone furoate is a corticosteroid (ICS for inhaled
corticosteroid). Corticosteroids are used to prevent
asthma attacks because they have an anti-inflammatory
effect (reduce swelling and irritation in the walls of the
small air passages of the lungs, easing breathing
problems).

• Formoterol fumarate dihydrate is a long-acting
bronchodilator (LABA). Bronchodilators help the
airways in the lungs to stay open. It makes breathing
easier by relaxing muscle spasms in the air passages of the
lungs. The effects last for 12 hours

USE

Mometasone furoate is a corticosteroid. It is used to prevent asthma attacks because it reduces swelling and irritation in the walls of the small air passages of the lungs.

Formoterol belongs to the class of medications known as bronchodilators. It helps to open airways and make breathing easier. The effect lasts for 12 hours.

WHY IS IT PRESCRIBED?

Zenhale is used to treat asthma that is not managed by a controller medication (e.g., a low to medium-dose inhaled corticosteroid) and a short-acting beta2-agonist as needed (salbutamol). It’s also used for severe asthma that necessitates the use of two different controller medications. Patients aged 12 and up are eligible to use it.

SIDE EFFECTS

  • headache, sore throat, hoarseness, sinusitis, dry mouth, nausea, tremor, shakiness, nervousness, dizziness, disturbed sleep and muscle cramps.

STORAGE AND STABILITY
