What is Yasmin?
Yasmin (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) is a female hormone-based birth control pill that prevents ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary).
Yasmin is a contraceptive pill that is used to prevent pregnancy.
If you’re pregnant or have recently given birth, don’t use Yasmin.
Before taking this medicine
Yasmin can increase your chances of getting a blood clot, having a stroke, or having a heart attack. If you have high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, or are overweight, you are at an even higher risk. During the first year of taking birth control pills, your risk of stroke or blood clot is highest. When you restart birth control tablets after a four-week or longer break, your risk is also high.
How should I take Yasmin?
Yasmin should be taken exactly as directed by your doctor. Follow your prescription’s instructions to the letter. Yasmin should not be taken in higher or lesser doses or for longer than is indicated. Take your first pill on the first day of your menstruation or the first Sunday after the start of your cycle. When you initially start taking this medicine, you may need to utilize a backup birth control method, such as condoms with spermicide.
