Purpose of Vaniqa
Eflornithine, sold under brand names such as Vaniqa, is a drug used to treat African trypanosomiasis and excessive facial hair growth in women. Specifically, it is used for the second stage of sleeping sickness caused by T.b. gambiense and can be used together with nifurtimox.
Vaniqa Uses
This drug is used to slow the growth of facial hair and under the chin in women. Do not use the hair on other parts of the body. Blocks certain natural substances (enzymes) necessary for skin hair growth. This effect slows down hair growth, making it thinner and lighter. It does not remove hair and does not cause hair loss. Vaniqa is not for use in children under the age of 12.
How do you use Vaniqa
Apply a thin layer only to areas of concern such as the face and chin, and let it blend well. In general, use twice a day, at least 8 hours apart, or as directed by your doctor. Do not use for more than 5 minutes after hair removal (e.g., plucking, shaving). Do not wash the treated area for at least 4 hours.
Wash hands immediately after using this product. Vaniqa is for the skin only. Do not let the product get into your eyes, nose, or mouth. If the medicine gets into these areas, wash it off immediately with clean water. In case of contact with eyes, rinse thoroughly with water and consult a doctor.
Allow the medication to dry completely before applying cosmetics, moisturizer, or sunscreen to the treatment area.
Vaniqa Dosage
Apply a thin layer of VANIQA Cream 13.9% to the affected area on the face and adjacent areas under the chin and rub well.
Vaniqa Side Effects
Burning, tingling, stinging, and redness of the skin may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor.
Remember, this medicine was prescribed for you. Many people using this medicine have not experienced any serious side effects.
Call your doctor right away if you experience any of these unlikely but serious side effects: acne, or folliculitis. Severe allergic reactions to this drug are rare. However, if you experience symptoms of a serious allergic reaction such as rash, itching/swelling (especially on the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing, seek medical attention immediately.
