Purpose of Tamsulosin
Tamsulosin, sold under brand names such as Flomax, is a drug used to treat symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia and chronic prostatitis and to help pass kidney stones. Evidence of benefit from kidney stones is better for larger stones. Tamsulosin is taken orally.
Uses of Tamsulosin
Tamsulosin is used by men to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It does not contract the prostate, but it works by relaxing the muscles of the prostate and bladder. This helps alleviate her BPH symptoms such as difficulty initiating urine flow, weak urine flow, and frequent or urgent need to urinate (including in the middle of the night). Do not use this medicine to treat high blood pressure.
How do you use Tamsulosin
Take Tamsulosin as directed by your doctor, usually once a day, 30 minutes after the same meal each day. Take this medicine whole. Do not crush, chew or open capsules.
The amount of dosage depends on the medical condition and response to treatment.
Tamsulosin can cause a rapid drop in blood pressure that can cause dizziness and fainting. The risk increases if your doctor starts taking this drug after increasing the dose or if you stop taking it and then restart treatment. During this time, avoid situations where you could get hurt if you passed out.
Tamsulosin Dosage
The usual dosage for adults for benign prostatic hyperplasia:
Starting dose: 0.4 mg orally once daily
Maximum dose: 0.8 mg orally once daily
If the 0.4 mg or 0.8 mg dose is stopped or interrupted for several days, treatment should be resumed at 0.4 mg once daily.

- Ejaculation problems
If any of these effects last or get worse, Tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Tamsulosin Storage
Store Tamsulosin at room temperature between 15°C and 30°C (59°F and 86°F). Do not freeze this medicine. Keep this medicine away from light.
