WHAT IS RANOLIZINE USES?
Ranolazine is used to treat a certain type of chest pain (chronic stable angina). It decreases the number of times you may get chest pain. Relieving symptoms of angina can increase your ability to exercise and perform strenuous work. Ranolazine works differently than other drugs for angina, so it can be used with your other angina medications (including nitrates, calcium channel blockers such as amlodipine, beta blockers such as metoprolol). It is thought to work by improving how well the heart uses oxygen so that it can do more work with less oxygen.
WARNINGS
If you have liver cirrhosis, you should avoid using ranolazine. Inform your doctor about all of your existing medications, as well as any that you begin or stop taking. Many medications interact with one another, and some pharmaceuticals should never be taken together.
OVERDOSE
If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call a poison control center right away.
HOW SHOULD THIS MEDICINE BE USED?
Ranolazine comes as an extended-release (long-acting) tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken with or without food twice daily.
Take ranolazine at around the same times every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take ranolazine exactly as directed.
Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.Swallow the tablets whole; do not break, chew, or crush them.
Your doctor will probably start you on a low dose of ranolazine and gradually increase your dose.
Do not take ranolazine to treat a sudden attack of angina. Your doctor will tell you what you should do if you experience an attack of angina. Make sure that you understand these directions.
Ranolazine may help control your condition but will not cure it. Continue to take ranolazine even if you feel well. Do not stop taking ranolazine without talking to your doctor.
SIDE EFFECTS
If you experience hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or neck, get immediate medical attention.
If you get a light-headed feeling or feel like you’re about to pass out, fast or pounding heartbeats, fluttering in your chest, or kidney problems—little or no urination, painful or difficult urination, swelling in your feet or ankles, feeling exhausted or short of breath—see your doctor right once.
Nausea, constipation, headaches, and dizziness are all common adverse effects.

Usual Adult Dose for Angina Pectoris:
500 mg orally twice a day; increase to 1000 mg orally twice a day as needed
Maximum dose: 1000 mg orally twice a day
STORAGE
Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets.
