WHAT IS LEVITRA?
LEVITRA is a prescription medicine taken by mouth for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) in men.
ED is a condition where the penis does not harden and expand when a man is sexually excited, or when he cannot keep an erection. A man who has trouble getting or keeping an erection should see his doctor for help if the condition bothers him. LEVITRA may help a man with ED get and keep an erection when he is sexually excited.
Levitra (vardenafil) relaxes muscles found in the walls of blood vessels and increases blood flow to particular areas of the body. It is used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence). During a penile erection, the penis fills with blood. The blood vessels that supply the penis with blood expand, or dilate, and the vessels that take blood away from the penis contract. The two large chambers in the penis, known as the corpus cavernosa, fill with blood. As the blood accumulates in the penis, an erection result.
HOW DOES LEVITRA WORK?
When a man is sexually stimulated, his body’s normal physical response is to increase blood flow to his penis. This results in an erection. LEVITRA helps increase blood flow to the penis and may help men with ED get and keep an erection satisfactory for sexual activity. Once a man has completed sexual activity, blood flow to his penis decreases, and his erection goes away.
BEFORE TAKING THIS MEDICATION
You should not use Levitra (Vardenafil) if you are allergic to Levitra (Vardenafil), or if you take other medicines to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension, such as riociguat (Adempas). Levitra is not approved for men younger than 18 years old. Do not take Levitra (Vardenafil) if you are also using a nitrate drug for chest pain or heart problems. This includes nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, and isosorbide mononitrate. Nitrates are also found in some recreational drugs such as amyl nitrate or nitrite (“poppers”). Taking Levitra with a nitrate medicine can cause a sudden and serious decrease in blood pressure.
Tell your doctor if you have ever had: heart disease, heart rhythm problems; a heart attack, stroke, or congestive heart failure; long QT syndrome (in you or a family member); high or low blood pressure; seizures; liver disease, kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis); a blood cell disorder such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia; a bleeding disorder such as hemophilia; a stomach ulcer; hearing or vision problems, vision loss; an eye disorder such as retinitis pigmentosa (an inherited condition of the eye); a physical deformity of the penis (such as Peyronie’s disease); or if you have been told you should not have sexual intercourse for health reasons.
HOW TO USE LEVITRA
Take this Levitra (Vardenafil) by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually as needed. Take Levitra (Vardenafil), with or without food, about 1 hour before sexual activity. Do not take more than once daily. Doses should be taken at least 24 hours apart. The dosage is based on your medical condition, response to treatment, and other medications you may be taking. Be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products). Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while using this medication unless your doctor or pharmacist says you may do so safely. SIDE EFFECTS
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Levitra (Vardenafil): hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop taking Levitra and get emergency medical help if you have: heart attack symptoms – chest pain or pressure, pain spreading to your jaw or shoulder, nausea, sweating; vision changes or sudden vision loss; or erection is painful or lasts longer than 4 hours (prolonged erection can damage the penis). Stop using this medicine and call your doctor at once if you have: ringing in your ears, or sudden hearing loss; irregular heartbeat; swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet; shortness of breath; a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out; penis erection that is painful or lasts 4 hours or longer; or seizure (convulsions). Common Levitra side effects may include: flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling); stuffy nose, sinus pain; headache, dizziness; upset stomach; or back pain.

WHAT DRUGS AND FOOD SHOULD I AVOID WHILE TAKING LEVITRA (VARDENAFIL)?
Grapefruit may interact with Levitra (Vardenafil) and lead to unwanted side effects. Avoid the use of grapefruit products. Drinking alcohol can increase certain side effects of vardenafil. Do not use any other drug to treat impotence unless your doctor tells you to.
