It does not shrink the prostate, but it works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and the bladder. This helps to relieve symptoms of BPH such as difficulty in beginning the flow of urine, weak stream, and the need to urinate often or urgently (including during the middle of the night).Tamsulosin belongs to a class of drugs known as alpha blockers.Do not use this medication to treat high blood pressure.
What is Flomax?
Flomax (tamsulosin) is an alpha-blocker that helps you urinate by relaxing the muscles in your prostate and bladder neck. In males with benign prostatic hyperplasia, Flomax is used to improve urination (enlarged prostate).Flomax is not recommended for women or children.
You should not use Flomax if you are allergic to tamsulosin. Do not take tamsulosin with other similar medicines such as alfuzosin (Uroxatral), doxazosin (Cardura), prazosin (Minipress), silodosin (Rapaflo), or terazosin (Hytrin).
Flomax can make you dizzy or faint, particularly when you first start taking it or stop taking it. Be cautious if you’re driving or doing anything else that requires you to be alert. Avoid standing for lengthy amounts of time or being overheated during exercise and in hot weather. You may experience dizzy if you stand up too rapidly from a sitting or lying posture.
BEFORE TAKING THIS MEDICATION
You should not use Flomax if you are allergic to tamsulosin. Do not take this medicine together with similar medicines such as alfuzosin (Uroxatral), doxazosin (Cardura), prazosin (Minipress), silodosin (Rapaflo), or terazosin (Hytrin).
To make sure Flomax is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:
liver or kidney disease;
a history of prostate cancer;
low blood pressure; or
an allergy to sulfa drugs.
Flomax may have an effect on your pupils if you have cataract surgery. Inform your eye surgeon that you are taking this medication ahead of time. If your surgeon advises you to stop taking Flomax before surgery, do so.
Although this medicine is not for use in women, Flomax is not expected to harm an unborn baby. If you are a woman using this medication, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Anyone under the age of 18 is not permitted to use Flomax.

How to storage
