What is clotrimazole topical?
Clotrimazole topical is an antifungal drug used to treat fungal infections.
Athlete’s foot, jock itch, ringworm, and yeast infections are all treated with clotrimazole topical (for the skin).

Follow the directions on the label and container of your drug. All of your medical conditions, allergies, and medications should be disclosed to each of your healthcare providers.

 

Before taking this medicine


If you are allergic to clotrimazole, you should avoid using it topically.
Clotrimazole topical is unlikely to cause harm to an unborn child. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment, tell your doctor.
Clotrimazole topical is not known if it goes into breast milk or if it can damage a nursing baby. If you’re nursing a child, let your doctor know.

 

How should I use clotrimazole topical?
Follow the directions on the label or as advised by your doctor. Do not use in excess of the indicated dosage or for longer than the advised duration.
Do not take this medication by mouth. Clotrimazole topical is solely for external use.
Unless you’re treating a hand infection, wash your hands before and after taking clotrimazole topical.
The injured region should be cleaned and dried. For 2 to 4 weeks, apply a tiny dose of the cream (typically twice daily).

 

What should I avoid while using clotrimazole topical?
Keep this drug out of your eyes, nose, and mouth.
Unless your doctor advises you otherwise, avoid using other skin drugs on the areas you’re treating with clotrimazole topical.

 


Clotrimazole topical side effects


If you experience hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or neck, get immediate medical attention.
If you have: Stop using clotrimazole topical and contact your doctor immediately if you have:
severe blistering, swelling, redness, or seeping of the treated area; or severe burning, stinging, or other irritation.
