WHAT IS APIDRA?
Apidra (insulin glulisine) is a type of insulin glulisine injection. Insulin is a hormone that operates by reducing blood glucose levels (sugar). Insulin glulisine is a fast-acting insulin that begins to operate 15 minutes after injection, peaks in about an hour, and continues to work for another 2 to 4 hours.
WARNINGS
Apidra is a fast-acting insulin that kicks in right away. It should be used within 15 minutes of starting a meal or within 20 minutes of finishing one.
BEFORE TAKING THIS MEDICINE
If you have an allergy to insulin glulisine or are experiencing hypoglycemia, you should avoid using Apidra (low blood sugar).

Low potassium levels in the blood (hypokalemia) or diabetic ketoacidosis are all symptoms of liver or renal failure (call your doctor for treatment).
HOW SHOULD I USE APIDRA?

APIDRA SIDE EFFECTS
If you have redness or swelling where an injection was given, itchy skin rash all over your body, difficulties breathing, fast heartbeats, feeling like you could pass out, or swelling in your tongue or throat, seek emergency medical attention.
STORAGE
- Unopened Apidra vials and Apidra SoloSTAR should be stored in a refrigerator, 36°F-46°F (2°C-8°C). Protect from light. Apidra should not be stored in the freezer, and it should not be allowed to freeze. Discard if it has been frozen. Unopened vials not stored in a refrigerator must be used within 28 days.
- The opened (in-use) Apidra SoloSTAR pen should NOT be refrigerated, but should be kept below 77°F (25°C) away from direct heat and light. The opened (in-use) Apidra SoloSTAR kept at room temperature must be discarded after 28 days.
